Russia will block any resolution on Syria that differs from Moscow's version. This was stated by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky, reports TASS.
He clarified that Russia will use the right of veto on the document on cross-border assistance to the Arab Republic. An alternative to Moscow's project will be the closure of the cross-border assistance mechanism, the diplomat added.
Earlier, Russia blocked the draft resolution of Norway and Ireland on Syria in the UN Security Council on extending the operation of the Bab al-Hawa checkpoint for cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid to the country for a year. According to the resolution adopted a year ago, the condition for extending the work of the checkpoint was, among other things, increasing the supply of humanitarian aid through the contact lines on the territory of Syria, and not from abroad. Russia has repeatedly indicated over the past year that this condition is not fulfilled.
